I throughly enjoyed being a parent of a student who attended Grassfield Elm. while Mr. Ruben was principal. He raised the bar very high for outstanding leadership, genuine compassion and caring for each and EVERY student, and going out of his way to make school a place the kids WANTED to be. The teachers are good and some are excellent. I feel my child is very well rounded and has been given unique oportunities at GFE such as Gator Clubs at enrich after school learning and create fellowship among the students. The talent show and dance are those extra special events that make GFE more then "just" a public school, it makes it special, different, unique and desirable. The new principal has ALOT to live up to and he will have to work hard to keep up the positive, upbeat atmosphere at Mr. Rubin created. GFE is a wonderful school, not because of the neighborhood or district it is in...but because of the dedicated teachers, and the support of a SUPERB principal who knew how to make things work and flow very well. He set a benchmark that other schools should use as a guide for achieving success. When a man knows every child name by heart, it speaks volumes. GFE, a school with character!

GFE has been a great experience for us. Like others have stated there are some not so great teachers but I think you'll find that in ANY school in ANY district. We've had an overall great experience and definitely recommend this school to anyone looking to take their children here.

First let me say that I love the principal at Grassfield. It is a very tough job but he knows every child by name and most parents too. He is very approachable and willing to work with parents if there are issues that need dealing with. In terms of teachers it has been pretty good. My kids have had some wonderful teachers and one real stinker. The PTA is very active and there are plenty of fun family activities to be involved in. I am glad my children attend this school and would recommend it to other parents.

GFE is a good school in Chesapeake, but perhaps below average for the state due to many inexperienced teachers. The principal is excellent and knows every child (and their parents') names. The teachers are hit and miss as my two children have had both excellent and below average teachers. If your child does not naturally excel, they can get lost in the mix here. One teacher prepared my child for failure mid-year versus a plan for success. The PTA is very active and there is a lot of school spirit and Gator pride.

I have 2 children that currently attend Grassfield elementary school, and I gotta say so far I have not been very impressed with the teaching staff. This is my oldest childs second yeat attending this school, and I haven't liked any of her teachers yet! However, I do like my other childs kindergarten teacher. The school seems designed to cater only to stay at home mothers and not working moms.

We really love this school. I have 3 children attending and they are loving their experience at GFE! I highly recommend GFE! The kids are inspired and excited daily running in from the bus sharing the latest thing they learned. Go Gators!

Grassfield Elementary is top notch. We are lucky to have our children attend such a great school. Adminitsrators need to understand that 504 plans were not meant to wait until a child is failing because of health issues to get them help. But to be put in place to make sure that kids are not put in that position.

I could not be more pleased with GFE. The staff is exceptional, administration is top of the line, and the kids show an eagerness to learn. There is a great show of pride in this school.

It would be very hard to find a school that is so dedicated to their children. I feel blessed to have my children attend a school where I know they are learning but aslo cared for.

As i former student at this school, i find some of the teachers not so exciting at teaching as most people have said! The school's entire extra curricular activities have been based around stay at home parents from my point of view. Both of my parents work and could not find the time to involve me in extra activities. The principal at the school is very dissapointing and i find that very important in every school, as a student! So total of the whole school i am dissapointed as you see!

I am a parent of 3 children at GFE and I could not be happier. The teachers are so excited and eager to teach. Parental involvement is more than welcomed. The administrative staff is very professional, but approachable. Their teachers continue to challenge them by allowing them to complete assignments that are designed for students in higher grade levels, but not assignments that may be 'over their heads'. I appreciate the fact that the adm. staff and teachers encourage the children to accomplish more, but not by forcing or by 'pushing' them too hard. They also encourage student acceleration/promotion, but only if tested(knowledge as well as social skills). We're very happy.

Well rounded school. However, If your child requires special education services please don't attempt to enroll them in GFE. The child progress is held to a higher standard by the child in need of services and the parents but not the teachers. Maybe some of the teachers would benefit from additional training on how to interact with special need students as well as their parents. Chesapeake, VA

I have had two children at this school and could not be happier. Very enthusiastic teachers. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to get involved and they have a very successful, active PTA.
