King`s Fork Middle School Reviews

4/5 Rating - Posted January 10, 2014
Kings Fork Middle School has been a wonderful experience for my 8th grade daughter. She is a high achiever who has been blessed with teachers who love teaching and are passionate about what they are teaching. The student population can be rough but if students are raised to make good decisions they can avoid the drama.

KFMS is awful I've been there for two years and I've only had four decent teachers. The food is horrible, the school is not safe at all. Most of the teachers don't care about the students they just care about getting a paycheck. There are always fights happening and always people getting bullied. I really don't get bullied but I've seen people get bullied. A lot of times teachers blame students on doing things just because of past experiences. The teachers lie about the students to administrators and parents. The teachers are more worried about suspending and disciplining students instead of teaching. A lot of teachers give pre-test that are a a big part of a students grade which the things in the test haven't been taught yet, or they give test and a bunch of work to students and expect them to learn it without students being taught either verbally or by seeing something and it being explained. The teachers and administrators worry more about dress code than teaching and educating students. The school is horrible and I would not recommend this school to anyone I wish I could leave but I think I'm just gonna have to deal with it until high school.

My son went to KFMS for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. He just finished his first year of high school and KFMS is the reason he is on the advanced diploma. The teachers and administration did everything they could to help him succeed. I am completely impressed with the dedication and caring that came from King's Fork. Mr. Darden is missed, but Mrs. Presson is running a tight ship and the great work continues. Thank you KFMS.

I'm an 8th grader, and I would have to say that I absolutely cannot stand this school. To start, most of the teachers are always dealing with the bad kids. They act like they don't care about their students grades or at least try to help them improve. Most of the kids have a lot of drama in their lives. Fights are always breaking out and most of them are absolutely pointless. Ever since the new principal (Jennifer Presson) came, the school basically fell apart. It is definitely not fair to those students who want to learn. It's just awful. There is no part of the school that is good. Even my parents think that the school is bad.

Kings Fork Middle School is the by far NOT a good school. There are a few good teachers there. But overall, they are not the best. I feel most of them are there for the summer off. Grades are always entered late. Assignments are often confusing to the student. The supervision, if you could call it that is non-existent. If I could avoid it, I would get my kids out of this school. And not much to look forward to at the High School either.

King's Fork is a sorry excuse for a school. My kids and I relocated from Yorktown and I immediately got involved with the 7th grade guidance councilor to make my sons transition easy. That back fired. She treated me as if I were a child. My son was being bullied because other kids didn't approve with how he dressed or looked. The GC stated that his hair makes him look like a girl. Very unprofessional. The kids at that school have no morals, class, respect, and are racists. They are from low income families and it shows. Most of the teachers he had were very rude. I even tried taking to the principle and she tried to justify it by saying "he's new." For the love of your children, do not enroll them at King's Fork. I pulled my son out and made other arrangements for him.

My son is in the 7th grade and he loves this school. He s an honor roll student from the first day he entered this school. This school displays all the normal actions from security checks to disorderly students, which is found in any schools. Great school and my son love it. Keep up the great work King's Fork Middle School.

My son is a 6th grade student at KFMS. Yes, the school building is new and beautiful but looks are deceiving. I read another review on here about fights always breaking out and I'm here to tell you it is absolutely TRUE. The school administration is overwhelmed by problem kids. The school asks for parents to be more involved, except when you have a problem with the school. Another issue is communication-we rarely hear from the school and when we have it's via snail mail and they want a response the next day. I will say, however, that my son has been blessed with some really good teachers. They have been the saving grace of the school.

This school is HORRIBLE. The teachers do not pay any mind to the students at all. They waste all their time dealing w/ the bad kids. I am a 7th grader there and I used to go to Va. Beach schools (great neck middle). Compared to that school I wouldn't recommend this school at all! You get checked for weapons alot and they make you stand outside in the rain to wait to be checked by the metal detector. They only have three extra curricular activities, so alot of people are in gangs (SSG). Avoid this school at all costs.

My son is a sixth grade student at KFMS. I was a little nervous about sending him there, but I would have been nervous about any middle school. He absolutely loves his teachers and is very happy at this school. No middle school is perfect, but this is a beautiful facility with hard working teachers and many wonderful students. There is a real mix in the student population - great kids and some very troubled students. There are some fights as well as some ongoing discipline problems, but overall I am very content to have my son attend there. He maintains an 'A' average and loves his school.

My son is in the 6th grade. He is miserable at Kings Fork Middle. There are constant fights, bomb threats and searches for weapons. The majority of the kids demonstrate that their parents have not done a good job raising them. There is constant cursing on the bus and nothing is done about it. This continues in the school. I would not recommend this school to my worst enemy. We are moving out of this district. It is a shame because we LOVE Oakland Elementary. Oh and there is no communication with the school. They do not send home a single paper so you have no idea how your child is doing until the report card conference. Then they give you a stack of graded papers with the report card. Why not send the papers home once they are graded?

KFMS has a kind and intelligent staff of teachers. They do their best with overcrowded class rooms, weekly fighting, uncooperative parents, stacks of paperwork, noisy lunch breaks and a passive administration. KFMS has great rules, but no one inforcing them. Wonderful, hardworking teachers, but very little parental support. There are too many students being pampered and passed who should not be and not enough opportunities for the gifted and talented.
